Solid & Chiseled. ADVANCED
1903 is a typeface inspired by carved lettering found on a datestone, above the main entrance to, what once was, Homerton Terrace in east London. Using only four numerals, ‘1’, ‘9’, ‘0’ and ‘3’, as source material for a new font is simultaneously daunting and liberating – 1903 is not a revival of a historical font, but rather an open-ended exercise exploring how a unique style of lettering translates into a modern, contemporary typeface – a font that is legible and readable in small point sizes, yet impactful, idiosyncratic, with plenty of quirks in large point sizes. 1903 is available in one weight and two styles: Solid and Chiseled; the latter style pays homage to the hand carved original source.
